Building thoughtful things for the web.
IndieWeb advocate, open-source tinkerer.
This website is being served from a tiny wee computer in my attic in Dundalk, Ireland. Check out what's new for more interesting content than this.
This computer is a super low-power Intel-based Linux machine, about the size of 4 slices of Brennan's shitty sliced pan, that sits on a windowsill, passively cooled by the sweet Dundalk air. It runs a few other boring things apart from this website.
The website itself is built using Astro, an awesome web framework that my friend Matt works on. It's a lovely thing to use. Content is managed in a self-hosted Ghost instance
More about the software
On my wee machine, I'm running a Linux server and, amongst other things like Cockpit, a platform called Coolify, which allows me to very easily deploy and maintain a bunch of services via GitHub and Docker. It makes it very easy to orchestrate entire software stacks, like this web stack for example, and manage the deployment and monitoring very easily.
I'm only really scratching the surface here, but the bottom line is, I'm pretty much running an entire SAAS platform for my own personal use that I completely own, with no subscriptions, on hardware that cost less than a dinner for 2 in a moderately priced Dundalk restaurant.
I think that's pretty cool. ❤️
More about me
I make lots of internet things and having been doing so for a long time. Sometimes I need a place to host stuff for testing, experimentation, or just for fun. This is that place.
